The State Government has announced the latest round of grant recipients for the All West Australians Reducing Emergencies (AWARE) program.

  • Metropolitan and regional local governments receive more than $250,000 in funding
  • Grant program supports emergency management at a local level
  • More than $1.7 million awarded since 2017

The State Government has announced the latest round of grant recipients for the All West Australians Reducing Emergencies (AWARE) program.

A total of 20 local governments from Denmark to Carnamah will receive a share of $257,241 to enhance emergency management capability.

The City of Stirling received $31,725 to establish a multi-agency functional exercise simulating a complex emergency incident, activating local emergency management plans to identify areas of improvement.

The Shire of Harvey received a grant of $17,550 to carry out an emergency management capability assessment. The assessment will enable the shire to identify and address shortfalls in its emergency management capabilities to ensure community safety and resilience.

More than $1.7 million has been invested through the AWARE program since 2017 to support Western Australian local government projects focused on emergency management preparedness activities, training and community awareness.

The AWARE program is administered by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) on behalf of the State. More information on the program including previously funded projects can be found here.

Comments attributed to Emergency Services Minister Paul Papalia:

"Since 2017, the State Government has partnered with local governments to invest more than $1.7 million in grassroots initiatives to enhance emergency management capacity and preparedness activities in local communities.

"Local governments play a vital role in preparing for, responding to and recovering from emergencies and these projects are a great example of the work done in this sector to both upskill and prepare their organisations and engage with their communities to improve resilience."
